Megapix Digital C.C photography by: Mike Bagley tel:   +27 (0)11 783 9073 Blog Wednesday 28 April 2010 This is one of my favourite flower shots and also one which won me a prize in a local photo competition. Taken early one morning with a macro lens. The sun lit the Strelitzia from above and behind the flower emphasising the striations on the unformed petal and providing sufficient light to eliminate the need for fill flash. Because of the back lighting the background was underexposed thus making the Strelitzia really stand out. Tuesday 27 April 2010 This shot was taken on safari in my front garden. Started shooting early in the morning using a 200 - 400 lens. After many attempts using continuous high speed mode I finally caught this bumble bee in action, nice and sharp. The long lens and the wide open aperture blurred the background beautifully which in turn emphasised the subject eliminating any distraction. This image made it through to the semi finals of  the African Geographic photo competition. The finalists will be announced in May. Hold thumbs!
